The prestigious Skulley Award honoring the late William C. Skulley, Jr. was presented to Fire Chief Michael Sullivan by Superintendent Joan Landers and Sandy Skulley, Bill's widow. The award is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to enhance the educational experience for our students in honor of the late esteemed School Committee member and Wakefield attorney.
Chief Sullivan was recognized for his tireless work to ensure the safety of all children. His unique ability to provide comfort to all he interacts with daily does not go unnoticed. Chief Sullivan's dedication and work ethic sets the standard for excellence in collaboration between public safety and our schools.
Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF) recently held its 16th annual Celebration of Learning Banquet on Tuesday, April 3rd, at Wakefield High School. The evening honored students, staff, volunteers and community members that make our schools great! These honorees exemplify the core values of their respective schools and show positive effort and attitude. WEF also recognized wonderful community volunteers who are committed to public education and excellence in Wakefield.
Fourth graders from each of the elementary schools were congratulated by their principals and recognized for exemplifying the core values of their respective schools.
Galvin Middle School students were recognized by interim Principal Therese Jarmusik for exemplifying the core values of their school which include Commitment, Achievement, Respect and Enthusiasm.
Wakefield High School students were recognized by their principal Dr. Kimberly Smith for their academic excellence, leadership and service to their school community.
Honorees were Mary Moriarty, Terri Roberto, Sue Siebeking, Karen Swales, Jeanine Campbell, Pamela Martin, Kathy Cristiano, Linda Caldwell, Linda Callahan, Margaret Hoar, Lillian Beherrell, Jennifer Cefalo, Cathy Leofanti, Marie Newman, Emily Schroer, Lisa Tibbetts, Suzanne Burns, Sue Courchesne, Sue Cullen, Richard McKenna, Kathy O'Maley, Brian Robertson.
Several volunteers were recognized for their generous support of and commitment to the students and staff of the Wakefield Public Schools. Honorees were Suzanne Casa, Nancy Hourihan, Lorri Wheeler, Mary Crump, Laurie Hunt, Andrea McNamara, Catherine Callaghan, Dorothy Maffe, Karla Cerulle, Cheryl Conte.
Community members Elaine Hughes, District Technology Coordinator and Kyle McGrail, WHS Student and Challenger Basketball Referee were honored. And a Special Achievement Award was presented to Debra Duggan, the Director of Wakefield Academy.
The evening ended with many thanks being extended for making the evening possible. The very talented Culinary Arts students from the high school, under the direction of Susan Lacey, prepared and served the delicious meal and desserts. The Wakefield High School Jazz Band, led by Tom Bankert, provided fantastic music for the evening. Special thanks were given to Sue Worden and her WEF team for organizing this event and to Joan Landers for her continued support of WEF and the Wakefield students.
