Each year, the Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF) is proud to sponsor a Celebration of Learning - an event honoring the students, staff, volunteers and community members who make our school district exceptional.  Honorees exemplify the core values of their respective schools and show positive effort and attitude, or are key voices representing the entire Wakefield Public Schools, producing positive results. 


Celebration of Learning awards recognize the following:
  • Student(s) who best exemplify to their peers a living example of their school’s CORE VALUES (Pillars of Character), day in and day out throughout their academic career,
  • Staff member(s) generally exemplify one of the following roles, but the opportunities are boundless:
    • An innovator - who significantly contributed to the overall educational excellence at the school by introducing programs that further enhance many students learning opportunities.
    • A stretcher - who may have taken on an additional project, over and above their assigned responsibilities, or covered for or mentored a peer, in a way that resulted in furthering educational excellence for the children in the school.
    • A morale builder - who may have dealt with a difficult school situation in a manner that resulted in positive morale building for staff and students and the community as a whole.
    • A pillar - who may be retiring or leaving to join another school community. This staff member would have had a long record of providing educational excellence and school core values support, year in and year out, during their tenure as part of the school community.
  • Volunteer(s) generally exemplify one of the following roles, but the opportunities are boundless::
    • An innovator - who significantly contributed to the overall educational excellence at the school by introducing programs that further enhance many students learning opportunities.
    • A pillar - who has significantly contributed to and enhanced educational excellence as well as the school core values, year in and year out, as part of the school community.
  • Community Member(s) or Businesses of Wakefield, whose tireless work in charitable causes impacts families and their school age children in a positive fashion.  
    • Individuals who receive this award, are nominated by other members of our community, and are typically unsung heroes and heroines in our town, who make it their mission to better the lives of those in need.  
    • Businesses who receive this award are key contributors to special programs within the Wakefield Public School System, providing financial, volunteer, or other types of support to maintain a program.


In addition, three distinguished awards:, may also be awarded:
  • The Skulley Award - Presented a staff member who have made a significant contribution to enhance the educational experience for our students, often times overcoming significant obstacles
  • The Dr. Kimberly Smith Excellence in Education Award - Presented to a staff member. (Renamed in 2018., from The Excellence in Education Award.)
  • The Impact Award​ - Presented to a staff or a community member.
