WEF recently awarded Abigail Ciardi, Grade 7 and 8 Music Instructor, a grant to purchase ten acoustic guitars to be used during general music class at the Galvin Middle School.

12/16/2009: WEF awards grant to WHS Journalism Club
The members of the Wakefield High School Journalism Club, along with their teacher/faculty advisor Ms. Nannette Farrell are holding up the latest edition of the school's quarterly newspaper the WHS exPRESS. The content of the newspaper is written and designed by the students. The newspaper printing is fully funded by grants obtained by the teachers and students. This edition was printed using a grant awarded by the Wakefield Educational Foundation (also shown in the photo is WEF representative Christine Wilson).

12/02/2009: WEF awards grant to WHS Foreign Language Dept.
WEF awarded a grant to the Wakefield High School Foreign Language Department for their media library. The grant will be used to purchase new cultural DVDs and documentaries.

  THANK YOU for making our Chocolate Rose sales bloom!

WEF is pleased to announce the top sellers of the Chocolate Roses at each school that participated in the recent Chocolate Rose Fundraiser: Richie Custodio, Sarah Collins, Jacqui Roderick and Alyssa Kirk (Galvin); Sean O'Neill and Leah Rossi (Dolbeare); Brianna Simms and Rachel Witkowski (Greenwood); Micha Elwell and Samantha Nimbleet (Walton); Christina Armata and Nathan Alberti (Woodville). Each received a gift certificate to a store of their choice. Thank you and congratulations to all supporters for their efforts and to all the children and families who participated in this very worthy cause! Your donations and the proceeds from this chocolate rose sale are used to fund mini-grants, submitted by educators in all schools throughout Wakefield, and enrichment programs for the children in the Wakefield School System.

 WEF Boards accepts donation from SRR race directors

Organizers of the 13th Annual "24 Hour Around the Lake Marathon, Relay and Ultra Marathon" recently presented a portion of the proceeds from the July, 2009 event around Lake Quannapowitt to the Wakefield Educational Foundation. Somerville Road Runners, the organizers of the run, have been supporting WEF for over 10 years with generous donations from the 24 hour event. WEF President, Gayle Wettach, and Co-Presidents, Mary Jennings and Beth Hendriks. accepted the donation from race directors Noel Clark, Josh Grzegorzewski and Larry Horlick. One of the missions of the SRR is to promote a culture of fitness while working with communities to give something back. They have certainly done this in Wakefield by supporting WEF which in turn supports the educational enrichment of the students in the Wakefield Public Schools.
