Our Story
WELCOME & THANK YOU
for your interest in the
Wakefield Educational Foundation (“WEF”).
The Wakefield Educational Foundation is a 501 © (3) non-profit community-based organization dedicated to enhancing the educational experience for all students in the Wakefield Public School System.
Run by volunteer Wakefield residents, we are supported by donations from local businesses, civic organizations and individuals in our community and also by fundraisers conducted throughout the year.
WEF provides grants to the Wakefield Public Schools for innovative and creative programs that are unable to be funded in the current year’s school district budget. Teachers, school staff, principals and PTO’s are all eligible to apply for grants. Grants are awarded to those individuals and groups whose proposals best exemplify initiatives that impact a broad number of students, have long term creative and innovative educational benefits within our school system and contribute to educational excellence now and in the future within the Wakefield Public School System.
Since our inception in 1989, WEF has awarded over $150,000 in grants. Just over last two years, grants awarded to our Elementary schools included a large selection of Early Literacy starter books at the Dolbeare School, funding to support the Greenwood AuthorFest (a superb annual literary event held at the school), a Museum of Science program and visit by Author David Biedrzycki at the Walton School, and a WeatherBug Weather Station environmental studies program at the Woodville School. Various cultural arts, historical and literature enrichment programs have been funded throughout the elementary school level. Additionally, WEF supported all the elementary schools by providing placement of selected books regarding violence and bullying that were part of a Wakefield Alliance Against Violence (WAAV) anti-violence, anti-bullying initiative last spring.
At the Galvin Middle School, WEF grants supported the Science Department through the purchase of Fisher Scientific Isotemp stirring devices, the Science Olympiad Summer Institute program and the Museum of Science travelling program. At Wakefield High School, the Music and Life Skills Departments were granted funds for the purchase of new equipment. The Steps 2 Success program also received grant support from WEF just this past year.
