Our Mission
Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF) was founded in 1989 by a group of Wakefield residents dedicated to providing a vehicle for the Wakefield community to support, acknowledge and promote academic excellence in the Wakefield Public School system. Our children, when provided with a high quality and enriching educational environment, will strive to achieve and reach their fullest potential today and in the future.
Since our inception, WEF has raised and awarded over $150,000 in grants to our Wakefield Public Schools. This has been instrumental during our challenging 21st century. With rising costs each year and budget cuts throughout school systems statewide, WEF focuses on filling a void by allowing our teachers to take creativity and innovation to the next level. Last year, we were able to fund 50% of the grant applications that we received.
WEF operates independently from the Wakefield School district, pursuing and distributing funds from private sources and supplementing educational programs in every Wakefield Public School. Scholastic enrichment, arts in education, science and technology, math enrichment and environmental science are key areas that must be interactively incorporated into the classroom. WEF is providing a bridge to allow hands-on learning for funding that is unobtainable within the current school system budget.
Our goals during the 2011-2012 school year include:
Supporting Excellence in Education
