Celebration of Learning
2011

Wakefield Educational Foundation (WEF) recently held their 15th annual Celebration of Learning Banquet on Thursday, April 14th at the Wakefield High School.  The evening honored students, staff, volunteers and community members that make our schools great!  These honorees exemplify the core values of their respective schools and show positive effort and attitude.  WEF also recognized wonderful community volunteers who are committed to public education in Wakefield.

Fourth graders from each of the elementary schools were congratulated by their principals and recognized for exemplifying the core values of their respective schools. Those honored include:
 
Dolbeare students: Caroline Herzog, Chris Beaudoin, Matthew Dardis, Jacqueline Bentubo, Isabella Kehoe and Paul Bentubo.

Woodville students: Anthony Forzati, Emily Norton-Hughes, Carter Margolis, Shoshanna Cohen, Kelly Hughes and Ryan MacNevin.

Greenwood students: Samuel Millstone, George Rossi, Emily Berinato and Rachel King.

Walton students: Sean Joudrie, Anthony DiStasio, Robyn Kelley, Brooke Lilley.

Galvin Middle School students were recognized by Dr. Paula Mullen for exemplifying the core values of their school which include Commitment, Achievement, Respect and Enthusiasm. Those honored include:

Cecelia Colliton, Katelyn Dubiel, Samantha Cross, Anna Riley, Molly Leach, Hannah DiTonno, Jose Lopez, Madelyn Fleming, Gianna Tringale, Bianca Passacantilli, Kevin LaMattina and Caroline Warchol.

Wakefield High School students honored by principal Dr. Kimberly Smith include:
 
Elizabeth Barr, Krista Donnelly, Jamie Bourque, Meghan Warchol, Mark Thayer, Jessica Downing and Alexandra Guarino.


Several volunteers were recognized for their generous support of and commitment to the students and staff of the Wakefield Public Schools. Those recognized were Jeff Wardwell, Chris Guarino, Christine Collins, Kelli Parece, Bernadette Farrell, Paula Dube, Kim Hartman, Fran Harrington and Marie Rej.




 

Community members
Maureen Miller and Julie Theriault were recognized for their tireless work on behalf of the Wakefield Interfaith Food Pantry. Bob Eldridge was recognized for his leadership of the Wakefield Adult Mentoring Program. Perry Pappas was honored for his commitment to Wakefield High School Track and Cross Country. Mike Angelo was recognized for his dedication to all the students of Wakefield and his community involvement.

Celebration of Learning 2011 Banquet

Skully Award winner, Teacher and Sponsor recognitions

The prestigious Skulley Award honoring the late William C. Skulley, Jr. was presented to Ms. Trudy Delorey by Galvin Middle School Principal Dr. Paula Mullen and Sandy Skulley, Bill’s widow. The award is presented to individuals who have made significant contributions to enhance the educational experience for our students in honor of the late esteemed School Committee member and Wakefield attorney. Ms. Delorey was recognized for her excellence in teaching as well as her wisdom and patience and relationships with students. Ms. Delorey was described as the 'go to' person, a trusted teacher and confidant. "Trudy is the role model who helps set the moral compass for the Galvin Middle School".

Faculty members were recognized for their complete dedication to the ideals of education and their abilities to make learning an enriching experience for all students. These staff members include:
 
Ron Cromwell, Mark Alexander, Ginny Dunton, Gail Tartarini, Ann Marie Parris, Lorraine Devine, Joanne Tedeschi, Maryalice Siafakas, Michele LeVasseur, Kristen Harper, Stacy McGrath, Sue Worden, Graeme Hall, Heather Cook, Alyssa Bursey, Jason Pavey, Karen Lewis, Mary Smith, TJ Liberti, Jill Charie, and Suellen Haladay.





The evening ended with many thanks being extended for making the evening possible. The very talented Culinary Arts students from the high school, under the direction of Susan Lacey, prepared and served the delicious meal and desserts. Mike Angelo, once again, served as the official photographer. The Wakefield High School Jazz Band, led by Tom Bankert, provided fantastic music for the evening. Special thanks were given to Sue Worden and her WEF team for organizing this event and to Joan Landers for her continued support of WEF and the Wakefield students.
